A lovely post. The community where I live is not quite so small, but is also centered around the Club. A few years ago I had hoped to climb Mulanje (a granite massive in southern Malawi) with Colin Tudge (author of The Secret Life of Trees). My aim was to see if I could find some cones of the Mulanje Cedar, as I knew it was under threat. Sadly Colin's health prevented him from making the trip, and I haven't yet had the opportunity to go. A collaboration between the 4 scientists is the best way of taking this forward, so strength to you all. Bruce Danckwerts, CHOMA, Zambia

The bold Yenesei once was a river, now it's a reservoir, many countries including Russia/Siberia have destroyed their forests, Russia has even burried old growth below some of their reservoirs. Please keep in mind .Russian people have had to put up with plenty of environmental destruction. Dams are effectively warming Siberia, CHANGING THE CLIMATE OF THE nORTHERN HEMISPHERE AND MELTING THE POLAR REGIONES. Yes dams are doing this! So stop just talking about logging and forests
